Adrie Koster will join Belgian side Club Brugge as head coach after this season. The 54-year-old Koster is currently coach of Young Ajax. His contract will run out after the season.
Koster began as coach of Young Ajax on 1 July 2007. The Zierikzee-born coach was quickly appointed interim coach of Ajax 1 after Henk ten Cate had left early that season. He made his debut as the first-team coach in the match Ajax - NEC on 20 October 2007. After the 2007-2008 season, Marco van Basten was appointed head coach of Ajax 1 and Koster returned to Young Ajax. ,,It is a great opportunity to become head coach at Club Brugge’’, says Koster. ,,I did not want to miss this chance, it is a great challenge. There have been more clubs who wanted to sign me, but I wanted to choose between Ajax and Club Brugge. I have had a great time here at Ajax and I still have. I owe a lot to Ajax, this club has given my career a tremendous boost. Especially because I was given the chance to coach the first team, with which we played for the title until the final match day. It was an unforgetable period.'' Koster, who works closely with Aron Winter, is very close to winning the championship with Young Ajax. The team needs to win one more point for the title.
