Ajax and Kenny Tete have reached an agreement for the extension of his contract which had been effective until June 30, 2015. The new and improved contract is effective for three years, until June 30, 2018.
Tete was born on October 9, 1995, in Amsterdam. The defender has been playing in Ajax’s youth academy since 2005. He made his debut in the first team on February 5, 2015, in the Ajax – AZ (0-1) game. The back has played two official matches in Ajax’s first team to date. “This contract gives me a boost, and lots of confidence”, said Tete. “And I hope to pay back that confidence to the club. I’ve developed well this season, I would have loved more playing time with Ajax 1 but I’m definitely happy that I’ve made my debut. My goal is now to become a steady asset.”
The defender can play in several positions. “I’m actually a right back, but I’ve been playing central right for the past eighteen months with the Ajax Reserves. But with Ajax 1, I would expect to focus on the back position again.”
Football affairs director Marc Overmars sees an exceptional defender in Tete. “Kenny has been playing at Ajax for ten years. He knows the club and has been with the selection for a while. He’s very strong physically. I myself was a left winger and I know that you’ll have a hard afternoon if Kenny is your opponent. It’s up to him now to get into the first team.”
