John van den Brom is the new head coach of Young Ajax. Van den Brom signs a contract for one year, effective immediately. Fred Grim will be the assistant coach. Grim is already under contract with Ajax as goalkeepers' trainer in the youth programme. Van den Brom and Grim replace Marco van Basten and John van 't Schip, who become the coaches of the Dutch national team.
Van den Brom played for Ajax's first team from 1993 to 1995. The midfielder played 44 league matches in that time, scoring 7 goals. After his active career the now 37-year-old Van den Brom earned his coaches' licence. Before coming to Ajax, he was coach of amateur club Bennekom. He finished in fifth place with his squad in the highest amateur division.
Fred Grim, 38, was, as a goalkeeper, part of the first team of Ajax for eleven years. He won four national titles with the club. Grim earned his youth coaches licence last year.
