Ajax and Joël Veltman have reached an agreement for the extension of his contract, which had been effective until June 30, 2017. The new and improved agreement goes into effect retroactively, from January 2014 until June 30, 2018.
Veltman was born on January 15, 1992 in Velsen. The right-footed central defender has been playing in Ajax’s academy since the 2001-2002 season. On August 19, 2012, he made his debut in the first team during the NEC-Ajax (1-6) competition match. Veltman has played in 39 official matches to date in Ajax’s first team, scoring one goal.
“We defeated Twente on Sunday, and now we’re extending my contract: these are great days”, said Veltman on Monday afternoon. “Ajax is the best club to develop myself with, so I’m very happy with my new contract. I’ve been playing in the basis as of this season, that’s the reason we sat down together again. It’s a sign of trust that my club has signed me on for longer. There are other guys who also want to extend. I think that we’re in the process of building something great together.”
