Hyun Jun Suk is having the time of his life at de Toekomst. The 18 year old South Korean is soaking up every new experience, and hopes for a real future with Ajax. The forward has been with Ajax on a trial basis, and his proof period has been extended by one week.
Suk arrived in the Netherlands after an orientation period in the U.K. He offered his services to Martin Jol. “Ajax is a world renowned club, including in South Korea”, says the Asian player, explaining his choice for Ajax. A combination of determination and promising talent won Suk a spot on a trial basis. “Every day, I’m happy to be here” he says, suited up in training gear and assisted by a translator. “Being here right now and training every day, is a dream come true for me. I am still here for one more week, but of course I am going to do my best to be allowed to stay longer.”
The forward played a trial game with the Jong Ajax against Ajax A1, scoring a goal at de Toekomst. Asked how he would describe himself as a player, he answers: “My physical fitness and condition are good. I’m also fast, and have confidence. But I am only eighteen, and compared to more experienced players, I still have a lot to learn.” This also applies to communication. “I want to learn to speak English and Dutch as soon as possible. But I can still make myself understood. I’ve played football every day for the last fifteen years, and the language of football is the same all over the world.”
