Holland have drawn Scotland as the opponent in the play-off matches for Euro 2004 in Portugal. The first match will be in Scotland.
Holland will face Scotland on 15 and 19 November. The teams will meet in Glasgow on Saturday 15 November on 3 pm local time. The Amsterdam ArenA will be the stage for the return match on Wednesday 19 November from 8.30 pm.
The play-off matches against Scotland caused quite a stir with Glasgow Rangers, a club with four Dutch players. ,,I am already telling my teammates in the locker room that we're going to Portugal'', said former Ajax player Ronald de Boer. ,,But that's a joke. It won't be easy.''
,,A very good draw'', was Holland coach Dick Advocaat's first reaction. ,,I was hoping for Scotland, for sentimental reasons. I worked at Glasgow Rangers for four years and I know many people there. I have great faith in a good result. Why? Because we have only lost once in seventeen matches with me as coach.''
Holland have played Scotland 13 times so far. Five times the Dutch won, four times the teams drew (all 0-0) and the Scots won four times.
The other play-off matches:
Latvia - Turkey
Croatia - Slovenia
Russia - Wales
Spain - Norway
