The grass team employees were honoured on Saturday evening before Ajax – NAC Breda. Last season, the Amsterdam ArenA’s grass field was voted as the best in the Eredivisie. The result came after a vote made by the captains of all eighteen Eredivisie clubs.
During the season, the captains from the Eredivisie clubs give their assessment of the grass fields each week to the VVCS. It’s the first time that the Amsterdam ArenA wins the award. ArenA director Hen Markerink is very proud of the assessment. “We’re very proud that the ArenA was awarded with the best grass field of the Eredivisie for 2011-2012. All of our efforts and investments over the last few years have resulted in the field being in top shape. We’ve worked hard on this together with Ajax. This grass prize is a fantastic crown on our achievements. It feels like winning the Champions League.”
By, among other things, using a modern lighting system, Stadium Grow Lighting, which is especially made to help grass grow and recover, the grass quality increases. The SGL Concept is also being used by Feyenoord, AZ, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, FC Barcelona, and many more top clubs around the world.
Danny Hesp, former Ajax player and chairman of the VVCS, handed the trophy to Jan and Kees Jong from the grass team. ArenA director Henk Markerink, coach Frank de Boer and ArenA facilities manager Henk van Raan, were all present at the awards ceremony.
