Ajax began their UEFA Cup season with a good win against FK Borac (1-4) in the stadium of Partizan Belgrade. Luis Suarez, Miralem Sulejmani and Klaas Jan Huntelaar all scored. The return leg in Amsterdam is on 2 October.
Aside from the home team scoring quickly into the second half, Ajax had ew problems with FK Borac. The match in Belgrade was a return to familiar ground. Before he joined sc Heerenveen, the Servian forward played for Partizan. Just like in the match against Roda JC (1-0) on Sunday, Sulejmani played close behind striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar. The number 10 scored the first goal in Belgrade after fifteen minutes: 0-1. The cross came from the ever-active Luis Suarez.
Suarez did not only set up his teammates, he also scored. Ten minutes before halftime, the Uruguayan forward suddenly lobbed the ball over Borac's goalkeeper: 0-2.
Dragan Milovanovic gave Borac some hope when he headed in the ball in the 50th minute: 1-2. Not much later, Maarten Stekelenburg saved on a strike from distance by Nebojsa Prtjenjak.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar forced the decision in the last twenty minutes. First the captain scored from up close from a corner kick. Then he used his left foot to fire in a ball from distance, giving Ajax a comfortable position or the return match in Amsterdam on 2 October.
