Ajax and Fabian Sporkslede have reached an agreement to extend his contract, which had been valid until June 30, 2012. The new and improved contract runs until June 30, 2015.
“I’m very happy”, said Sporkslede after signing. “I’ve worked hard for this in the past three years, since my first contract.” The outgoing Ajax player has had a good year. Individually, but with A1, too. “I’ve had a good season. I was injured for a long time last season, but I hardly missed anything this season. A1 was very successful. We made the finals of the NextGen Series, and we won the championship last week. I’m proud of myself, but I’m also proud of the team.”
Sporkslede will join Jong Ajax next season. “I’ll have Gery Vink and John Bosman as coaches”, he says with a wide smile. “I can develop even more there. What can I still improve? Everything. I need to be calmer with the ball, and I want to get better as a coaching defender. I can make progress in these things with the individual trainings.”
Wim Jonk is also pleased about Sporkslede’s contract. “He’s developed himself so much that we’ve made him an offer. He’s a player of the future. He’s good at the centre back, but he’s also strong at midfield. Fabian has strong points for both positions. He’s taken good steps, he wants to lead. In his position, coaching is important. He’s on the right track.”
Sporkslede was born on August 3, 1993, in Amstelveen. The defending midfielder has been playing in Ajax’s youth academy since the 2007-2008 season, and is currently playing in A1, the highest youth team.
