In addition to Maarten Stekelenburg and Gregory van der Wiel, several more Ajax players saw action with their national team on Wednesday. Christian Eriksen and Denmark were defeated 1-2 by England. Belgium, with Jan Vertonghen in the squad, squandered a potential 1-0 win against Finland. The practice interland ended up with a 1-1 score.
Jan Vertonghen and his team let a win slip through their fingers during the practice match in Belgium. The 27 year old Belgian international enjoyed a 1-0 lead with the Red Devils shortly before the end thanks to Alex Witsel’s goal. But towards the end of extra time, the Finnish substitute Porokora scored the tying goal: 1-1. Ten time international Toby Alderweireld didn’t play at all in the practice match, in which several other Eredivisie players did see actions on both sides.
At the Denmark –England practice match (1-2), several players from the Dutch competition participated, on the Danish side. The only “Dutch” Dane who started was Ajax player Christian Eriksen. The midfielder played with number 8, as he does with Ajax. Former Ajax player Dennis Rommendahl also saw action. After eight minutes of play, Denmark took the lead. On a pass from Eriksen, who had a solid game, Daniel Agger made it 1-0. Two minutes later, England tied the score with a Darren Bent goal. Ashley Young scored the final goal in the second half, 1-2.
Eyong Enoh posted a win with Cameroon earlier that day, defeating Macedonia 0-1 in a practice match. The African team defeated their hosts in the Macedonian capital thanks to a Matthew Mbuta goal.
Serbia booked a 0-2 win against home team Israel. Thanks to goals from Zoran Tosic before the break, and Vseljeko Trivunović afterwards, the Serbs won in Tel Aviv. Former Ajax player Marko Pantelic made his entry after the break as a substitute. Miralem Sulejmani didn’t play.
Jong Ajax defender Henri Toivomaki played with Young Finland on Wednesday. Toivomaki posted a great 4-1 win in a practice match against Young Estonia. The Ajax player was on field for the entire match.
