De Jong becomes 100th Ajax player for Holland

Nigel de Jong became Ajax player number 100 to play for Holland in the match against France. The Dutch and the French drew in Rotterdam in an otherwise forgettable friendly: 0-0.

Nigel de Jong replaced his teammate at Ajax Rafael van der Vaart after 70 minutes in the match against France. Wesley Sneijder had made his entrance after halftime, and provided Holland with a much-needed offensive impulse.
Johnny Heitinga played his second match for Holland's first team, and, playing on his natural position as central defender, impressed onlookers and teammates. Barcelona veteran Philip Cocu declared afterwards: ,,Heitinga played a very good match. It's not easy to play at this level in such a short space of time.'' The best compliment Heitinga could get was maybe that no-one had missed Jaap Stam against France.

Elsewhere, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was successful with Sweden against England. The Ajax striker scored the only goal in the friendly between the two countries. England used most of their young players in the test match.

Jari Litmanen scored for Finland. The midfielder, who came on fifteen minutes before the end, made sure his country beat Malta: 2-1.

Belgium, with Jelle van Damme in the line-up, lost to Germany: 3-0. Wesley Sonck was unable to play.

Tomás Galásek, part of a decimated Czech Republic, lost in Dublin to Ireland: 2-1. It was the first time in 20 matches that the Czech Rebublic lost.

In Glasgow, Romania defeated Scotland: 2-1. Former Ajax captain Cristian Chivu was one of the goalscorers for Romania.
