Johan Cruijff has given the assignment to reorganise Ajax's technical policy back to the Members' Council. There is a difference of opinion between him and the new coaching staff about the way this should be implemented.
The problem hinges about the youth academy, for which Cruijff wants to take drastic measures. This is announced in a press release that Cruijff has issued through his foundation.
The chairman of the Members' Council, Cor van Eijden, reacted with surprise: ,,Johan called me this afternoon. He said he had a conversation with Marco van Basten and that they had failed to come to an agreement. So he gave us back the assignment.”
Marco van Basten confirmed this to www.ajax.nl: ,,The press release is accurate. What Johan wanted to do with the youth academy, goes too fast for me, it is too radical. I am not unhappy with the way things go with the youth academy. I first want to see how everything goes, I have to experience it myself and then I want to do it my way and at a responsible pace.”
