Ajax and Klaas Jan Huntelaar have reached an agreement for the extension of his contract which had been effective until June 30, 2019. The new contract is valid for one year, until June 30, 2020.
Huntelaar was born on August 12, 1983, in Voor-Drempt. The striker has been playing with Ajax since 2016-2017, and had previously played with the club between 2006 and 2008 as well.
More than 200 duels for Ajax 1
35 year-old Huntelaar made his debut in Amsterdam on January 15, 2006, in the Ajax – NEC (1-1) match, and has now played in 201 official matches during which he has scored 133 goals. Huntelaar won both the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield in both 2006 and 2007.
“Klaas Jan is very important for us”, explains Marc Overmars, director of football affairs. “He adds a lot of value to the selection, partly because of his tremendous winner’s mentality. Klaas Jan is 100% professional in everything he does, and he carries the young talents with him. In addition that, take a look at the number of goals he’s scored; he has a lot of value for Ajax, and he shows it in the matches. I know for sure that he will continue to do that in the coming months and season, which is why we’re so happy that he has extended.”
