Coach's Column - Gordon Igesund

Ajax Cape Town got their season off to a flyer against Hellenic last week, and coach Gordon Igesund is looking to build on that success for their next Castle Premiership game against Dynamos at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday.

Obviously the players are still on a high after the great win against our local rivals, Hellenic, and therefore motivation certainly won't be a problem.

At the same time I am glad to see that the guys are still keeping their feet on the ground and are not getting too carried away by our excellent start. The season still has a long way to go and the players realise that every game is vital if we are to make sure that we can be challenging for league honours later on in the campaign.

Basically we just need to continue from where we left off on last Wednesday's game and so I won't be making any changes from our normal preparations - training will take place as usual throughout the week and we will be leaving for Giyani on Saturday morning.

Fortunately there are no injuries - which leaves me in the position that every coach dreams of - having a full-strength squad to choose from and having to decide who to leave out rather than being forced to draft players into positions they are not used to.

The only two players who are not available to me are Anele Zibi and Grant Igesund, who are away in China on South Africa Under-23 duty.

All the departments are looking strong and there are at least a couple of players vying for each position. This competition for places is very healthy and can only serve to bring the best out of each player.

So all is looking good and we are looking forward to continuing in the same vein in which we played against Hellenic when we meet Dynamos on Sunday.

Until next time,
