Ajax have reached agreement with Toby Alderweireld about the extension of his contract that would run to 1 July 2010. The new and improved deal with the 20-year-old defender will run from 1 July 2009 to 1 July 2014.
Alderweireld moved up to the first team from Young Ajax midway through last season. The defender made his debut in Ajax 1 on 18 January 2009 in the league match NEC - Ajax (2-4). He has played 8 matches in the first team. Alderweireld has also become an international for Belgium. He recently earned his first two caps for the Red Devils.
,,This is a great way to start the new season”, the young Belgian said after siging his new contract on Monday. ,,It is a confirmation that I did well last season. I don't know what to expect in the new season, but I am certainly going to do the best I can. The team's goals are the most important. We have to go for the championship with Ajax, that's priority number one.”
