Ajax will travel to Brazil during the winter break, as they did during last season’s winter break, for a training camp. At the request of Ajax’s head sponsor AEGON, Frank de Boer’s A-selection will be in Rio de Janeiro from January 6 to 13 to prepare for the second half of the season.
At least one practice match will take place during this training week in South America. Ajax cannot yet comment on any potential opponents or playing times.
During the 2011-2012 season’s winter break, Ajax also travelled to the 2014 World Cup host country. Sao Paolo was the destination last January. The training camp ended with a practice match against Palmeiras, which Ajax lost 1-0. Despite the loss, De Boer, his staff and selection players retain a good feeling about this trip.
Brazil is an important (growth) market for AEGON. The sponsor is strongly represented in the football-crazy country by Mongeral AEGON. Just like Ajax – who was crowned champion at the end – Mongeral AEGON was also able to pluck the fruits of the training week in January.
