Ajax is preparing for their competition match against Willem II on Saturday in the Amsterdam ArenA. On Tuesday, internationals Mounir El Hamdaoui and Eyong Enoh returned to the training field, at Martin Jol’s disposal. The selections will gradually become complete again within the next few days.
The league leader is slowly getting ready for the duel against last placed Willem II. Once all Ajax players have returned from their interlands during the course of the week, the focus will be solely on Ajax’s next opponent. El Hamdaoui and Enoh have the advantage of already having played their internationals.
Despite the absence of many players, simultaneous trainings took place on several fields on Tuesday. The players gathered in the rain around coach Martin Jol. In the nearby fields, the keepers and the rehabilitating Ajax players separately on their own pitch. Roly Bonevicia, Florian Jozefzoon and Jong Ajax player Ricardo van Rhijn trained individually with Jong Ajax coach Bryan Roy.
The scrimmage at the end of the practice session was enthusiastically watched by a group of young Romanian footballers from CS Atletico Arad. The youth players, aged 9 to 11, are Ajax’s guests this week. Head sponsor AEGON, as partner of the Romanian banking cooperation Banca Transilvania, had invited both teams to play practice matches against Ajax’s youth teams. On Tuesday evening, the oldest players will meet Ajax D2, who is under coaches Dennis Bergkamp and Heini Otto’s leadership. On Wednesday, the youngest selection will meet Ajax E2.
Spectacular plays were greeted with cheering from the Romanian guests. A great goal from Luis Suarez met with applause, just as Mounir El Hamdaoui’s fine one was applauded by Suarez. After the training, Suarez rewarded the Romanian spectators for their enthusiasm by signing the Ajax jerseys that they had received.
