Ajax has contracted two players from its academy. Under 19 juniors Zakaria El Azzouzi (pictured above) and Mauro Savastano reached agreements with the club.
El Azzouzi was born on May 7 1996 in Rotterdam. The striker came to Ajax’s youth academy at age thirteen. He signed a contract valid from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2020.
Savastano was born on April 16, 1997, in Zaandam. The left wing defender has been playing in Ajax’s youth academy since 2007. The youth international signed a contract which is valid from July 1, 2015, until June 30, 2018.
It’s the first contract for both players.
For El Azzouzzi, signing this contract was a ‘childhood dream come true’. “I’m very proud that I will be playing with the best club of the Netherlands for another five years. I’ve worked hard for this. I hope that it’s just the beginning and that I’ll be able to shine in the ArenA as fast as possible.”
It was also a great day for Savastano: “I’ve been dreaming about this since I was a kid. It’s great to sign your first contract at a club like this.” For him, it’s a great signal that the club offered him a contract: “It shows that the club believes in me and that gives me lots of confidence in the future.” Just like his team mate from Rotterdam, Savastano is hoping to join the first team soon, but that’s not the only thing he’s set his sights on: “My first goal is to win the UEFA Youth League championship with the Under-19s. That’s possible. We have a very good team.”
Finally, Wim Jonk, head of the youth academy, has praise for the young duo: “These guys have taken enormous steps. They’ve shown that on a weekly basis. In the end, that gets rewarded. I’m proud of that. They’ve earned this.” With the contract signing, a great football future is one step closer. Jonk is completely confident that these two talents will make it: “They know what they want. When they settle down, the next step will come naturally.”
