Ajax has reached an agreement with Kolbeinn Sigthórsson. The forward has signed a contract in Amsterdam which is effective on July 1 2011 and lasts four seasons, until Jun 30 2015.
Sigthórsson was born on May 14 1991 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The 21 year old international comes from AZ. He was previously active for Vikingur and HK Kopavogur.
Kolbeinn Sigthórsson is the first native of Iceland to be active at Ajax. The newcomer isn’t a complete stranger to Ajax. He toured Spain with the A youth team in 2006, after which he returned to Iceland. He’s now making the move to Amsterdam. “I’m proud to have signed a contract with Ajax”, says the 21 year old Ajax forward, who will wear number 9. “That’s a great number for me. Many great players have worn that number.”
When he’s asked which type of forward he is, he doesn’t hesitate to list his attributes. “I’m fast, determined, I can score. I’m looking forward to playing with Ajax.” The purposeful player has laid out his goals for the coming years. “I’m hoping to become a better player here. I hope I can do great things for the club, win titles, and I want to score more goals than last year.”
Sigthórsson is still enjoying a week of holidays. He played in the European Cup -21, where he’s been eliminated in the group phase despite a win against Denmark (and new team mates Eriksen and Boilesen). He trains with Ajax for the first time next week on Monday.
