Ajax has reached an agreement with Mido (Ahmed Hossam). The forward comes, transfer free, from Middlesbrough. In Amsterdam, the Egyptian player has signed a contract which is effective immediately, and runs until June 30, 2011.
Mido was born on February 23, 1983, in Cairo. Before coming to Amsterdam, the striker was under contract at Middlesbrough in England, but has been playing at West Ham United in January 2010 on a loan basis. Mido has previously played for Ajax. He came over in 2001 from the Belgian club AA Gent. In 2003, he left for France, to play for Olympique Marseille. In total, he played 57 official matches wearing the Ajax jersey, scoring 23 times.
Martin Jol: “We needed an extra striker and we have been trying, with limited means, to get someone in. I’m glad it’s finally done. We’ve just applied for a work permit, as he isn’t allowed to train with us until we get it. So we aren’t counting on him in the short term, also in part because he needs to make up some training.”
