Ajax has reached an agreement with Melvin Vissers. In Amsterdam, the midfielder has signed a deal which starts on July 1, 2012, and runs for 3 seasons, until June 30, 2015.
Vissers was born on February 11 1996 in The Hague. The 16 year old youth international comes from Sparta Rotterdam. Previously, he was active at ODB, VELO and Haaglandia. He celebrates his birthday on February 11, the same day as another (former) Ajax player. “Yes, I know”, says the attacking midfielder. “Rafael van der Vaart is one of my heroes. Iniesta and Xavi are also role models for me.”
The youth international, who just turned sixteen, is happy to join Ajax. “It’s a great challenge for me. I know a lot of the guys here because they’re team mates from the national under 16 team. I hope that I can develop fast here and join the first team as soon as possible. But I’ll be starting with Ajax B1 next season. That’s why I’m going to watch the AEGON Future Cup next week, where the current B1 team is playing.”
At Sparta, the Den Haag native was played in the position of attacking midfielder. “I’m more of a passer than a scorer. Other than passing, some of my strong points are my speed and depth. With the national team, I was used in a controlling role, and I enjoyed that.”
Ajax is pleased that Vissers selected Ajax. Wim Jonk, head of the youth academy: “Melvin is a technically strong player. He has many qualities, such as great depth and a good kicking technique, which we like to see at Ajax.”
Melvin Vissers is the eleventh player to sign a (new) contract lately. Mickey van der Hart, Chiel Kramer, Stefano Denswill, Mitchell Dijks, Ruben Ligeon, Jody Lukoki, Lesley de Sa, Peter Leeuwenburgh, Sven Nieuwpoort and Davy Klaassen all did the same thing in the past months.
