Ajax has reached an agreement with Kjell Scherpen and FC Emmen for the keeper’s transfer to Amsterdam. Scherpen has signed a contract which takes effect on July 1, 2019, and is valid for four seasons, until June 30, 2023.
The youth international was born on January 23, 2000, in Emmen. He attended Emmen’s youth academy and joined the club’s professional team in 2012.
Marc Overmars, football affairs director: “Kjell is a big talent and it’s great that he’s chosen Ajax. We’re extremely pleased with Andre Onana’s recent contract extension, but we’re looking to the future as well. Kjell will be one of four keepers in the A selection and will train with the first team daily. He is also young enough to play in the Keuken Kampioen Division with the Ajax Reserves.”
