Ajax has reached an agreement with Lisandro Martinez and Defensa y Justicia for the Argentinian player’s transfer to Amsterdam. The defender signs a contract effective per July 1, 2019, for four years, until June 20, 2023. An option for a fifth season has been included in the agreement.
Martinez was born on January 18, 1998, in Gualeguay, Argentinia. He made his debut in the Argentinian national team on March 22nd of this year in a friendly game against Venezuela.
Director of Football Affairs Marc Overmars: “Martinez is a left-footed player who can cover several positions on defense. He’s a defender who enjoys playing at the front. He brings a certain mentality that can really help us here, similar to what his fellow Argentinian Nico Tagliafico shows here. And Lisandro is still young, so we expect that he will develop into an even better player in the next few years.”
Third Argentinian in Ajax-selection
After Rasvan Marin (Standar Liège), Kik Pierie (sc Heerenveen) and Kjell Scherpen (FC Emmen), Martinez is this seaason’s fourth acquisition. He will joint two fellow Argentinians in Amsterdam: Nico Tagliafico, referred to by Overmars earlier, and Lisandro Magallan.
