Ajax have added 23 year-old Fench defender Julien Escudé of Stade Rennais FC to the team. Ajax´s managing director Arie van Eijden reached agreement with the French club about the immediate transfer of Escudé, who agreed to a four-year contract with Ajax. As usual, Ajax do not disclose financial details of the agreement.
Julien Escudé (born August 17, 1979 in Chartres) played in the highest French divison for the last four years. He played 103 league matches for Stade
Rennais in which he scored one goal.
Last season Escudé reached the semifinal of the Coupe de France with Rennais. He played in four Intertoto matches the season before.
Escude played 18 matches for AS de Cannes, the former club of Ruud Krol, in the French second division in the 1998-1999 season. He scored one goal in those matches.
Julien Escudé has played for France under 21 since February 22 2000. He has played 21 international matches, with one goal. Last year, the French ´espoirs´ lost the European title when the Czech Republic won the final after penalties.
Julien Escudé is the three year younger brother of tennis professional Nicolas Escudé, who is currently ranked 60th in the ATP
