In the ArenA, Ajax posted a good win in its friendly game against Borussia Mönchengladbach. An own goal and one by Kasper Dolberg brought Marcel Keizer’s team a 2-1 win.
Following a good opportunity for Borussia (with an outstanding save by Van Leer), Ajax opened the score in the 12th minute. From the left side, Justin Kluivert pivoted a free kick in front of the goal, after which Reece Oxford shot it into his own goal. Ajax pressed on, playing an outstanding game, and had 3 more good opportunities via captain Klaas Jan Huntelaar, David Neres and Kluivert.
In the 2nd half, Marcel Keizer brought in Joël Veltman, Kasper Dolberg and Dennis Johnsen. Veltman (header) and Johnsen (solo) created danger immediately, but a sloppy phase ensued. The Bundesliga’s number 4 team drew the game even via a long distance shot by Vincenzo Grifo.
Dolberg decides the game
With Hakim Ziyech and Lasse Schöne in as fresh reinforcements, Ajax picked up in the last thirty minutes. Johnsen was poised to bring Ajax into the lead. After a wonderful attack by Ziyech, Dolberg and Siem de Jong, the ball was sent to the Norwegian, but he sent the ball wide. The 2-1 goal came fifteen minutes before the end, and, considering the Amsterdam team’s dominance, it was well-deserved. On a pass from Siem de Jong, Dolberg coolly scored the winning goal. Thus 12.000 supporters – the maximum allowed for this game – had a good evening.
