Ajax has posted a convincing win against recently promoted FC Emmen. Thanks to goals by Hakim Ziyech, Klaas Jan Huntelaar (2) , Dusan Tadic and an own goal, the final score was 5-0.
Erik ten Hag’s team was changed in 2 spots compared to the midweek game against Dynamo Kiev. Rasmus Kristensen replaced Noussair Mazraoui and at midfield, Carel Eiting took over the position that Lasse Schöne had filled last Wednesday.
Another early lead
After the opening phase, during which Ajax had the most ball possession, the team took an early lead for the second time this week. Huntelaar scooped the ball and then sent Ziyech in. The Moroccan international took the ball on his left foot and, with a dry shot into the near corner, scored the opening goal: 1-0.
In the phase after the opening goal, the home team sought out the 2-0. Attempts by Nico Tagliafico, Tadic and Ziyech didn’t create any real danger. A header from Huntelaar came close, but landed straight into the hands of keeper Scherpen.
Ziyech dangerous, Huntelaar reaps benefit
In the last 10 minutes of the first half, it was Ziyech who broke through the visiting team’s defense a few times. In the 34th minute, keeper Scherpen was forced to save a flaming shot from the second line. A few minutes later, his attempt with his heel was saved on time.
In the 38th minute, a shower of opportunities resulted in a goal. Ziyech saw his header hit the post, but Huntelaar, who was on guard, was able to score easily on the reboud. Satisfied, Ajax was able to retreat to the locker with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Ajax continued to create opportunities. Tadic, Ziyech and Eiting tried to bring their team mates into position with their passes. The latter succeeded in the 59th minute. Eiting sent a precise shot to Huntelaar. The experienced striker didn’t hesitate and sent his 2nd goal of the game in with a header: 3-0.
Tadic scores again
But Ajax was still hungry after 3 goals. A shot by Ziyech wasn’t well played out by FC Emmen’s defense and the ball landed at Tadic’s feet. The Serb didn’t hesitate. Five minutes before the end, the score reached 5-0. In an attempt to clear the ball, FC Emmen defender Glenn Bijl slid the ball into his own goal.
Thanks to this big win against FC Emmen, Ajax can confidently head into the return UEFA Champions League playoff game against Dynamo Kiev. The return game against the Ukrainians kicks off on Tuesday at 21:00.
