Ajax outclasses Herenveen Reserves

Ajax played a closed friendly match against the Heerenveen Reserves on Tuesday afternoon. Due to poor weather conditions, the match was played in the Adidas MiCoach Performance Centre. Ajax left the Heerenveen talents hopeless: 6-0. Anwar El Ghazi scored two of the six goals.

Frank de Boer had composed his selection of players who hadn’t played on Saturday against Schalke 04, filled in with a few Ajax Reserves players. Among them were also some Under 19 talents: Donny van de Beek and Abdelhak Nouri. They made their unofficial debut under Frank de Boer.

Van de Beek was one of eleven players from Ajax who was at kick-off. He brought attention onto himself early in the match. First, the midfielder went in deep and passed the ball ahead well, after which Kolbeinn Sigthórsson, who has recovered from his injury, shot the ball just wide. A few minutes later, he came close to scoring himself when he just missed a pass from Queensy Menig by a hair.

After roughly ten minutes, Ajax took the lead. A rejected corner kick landed at Niki Zimling’s feet, and he decided to take the shot. A fantastic shot delivered a 1-0 lead.

The early goal was a promise of more to come, and they did. The third time that Van de Beek stood out resulted in a goal. With a great pass he sent down Menig , who then found Anwar El Ghazi with his pass: 2-0. A few minutes later, the 3-0 goal was scored when Sigthórsson ran to the first post and scored on Menig’s corner kick. The swift winger was a plague for the defense of the Fries team, who, in fact, didn’t do much offensive damage in the first half, either. One long-range shot was the extent of their threats. The Amsterdam team created opportunities, but because, among other things, El Ghazi missed a shot when he came face to face with the keeper, the halftime score remained 3-0.

After the break, four new faces came on for Ajax. Nouri replaced Van de Beek, Damian van Brugge swapped with Damon Mirani, Richairo Zivkovic came in for Sigthórsson and Robert Muric relieved Menig.

The second half was dominated by a strong Ajax as well as they continued to expand their lead. Substitute Muric was at the root of the 4-0 goal (Zivkovic) and 6-0 goal (El Ghazi). In between, Ruben Ligeon had already brought his team to 5-0 when he sent a beautiful Kenny Tete pass coolly into the corner of the goal.

Ajax line-up: Boer; Ligeon, Tete, Mirani (46. Van Bruggen), Van Koesveld; Bazoer, Zimling (66. Menig) Van de Beek (46. Nouri); Menig (46. Muric), Sigthórsson (46. Zivkovic), El Ghazi.

Score summary: 11. Zimling 1-0, 16. El Ghazi 2-0, 24. Sigthórsson 3-0, 52. Zivkovic 4-0, 68. Ligeon 5-0, 73.El Ghazi 6-0.
