Ajax learn valuable lesson against strong Arsenal

,,It was an interesting match against a strong team'', Danny Blind said after his Ajax had lost 1-0 to Arsenal on the first day of the LG Amsterdam Tournament. Ajax kept it close for a long time, but Blind had seen that the team from London were in control of the match.

Blind considered the match against the English giants a good test for his team. ,,If you want to put a team like this under pressure, you lose control'', said the Ajax boss.

Arsenal scored a late goal through young talent Arturo Lupoli. ,,We missed chances that were easier than the goal'', Arsenal's Arsène Wenger said. Ajax had their share of good opportunities, the best one coming in the first minute when Ryan Babel back-heeled it to Wesley Sneijder who shot just wide. Freddy Ljungberg and Ashley Cole should have scored for Arsenal, but other than Lupoli nobody was sharp in finishing.

Angelos Charisteas came closest when he hit the crossbar a minute before the end.

Maybe Blind was not too unhappy with the loss. The coach saw much room for improvement and from a loss there is often more to be learned then from a good result.
