For the fifth time in a row, the AEGON Future Cup will be held at de Toekomst Sports park during Easter weekend. Ajax.nl is featuring the participants in five issues. In the third edition: Liverpool and Celtic.
Liverpool, from the city of the same name on England’s west coast, is a team whose players will not easily be fazed by the full stands at de Toekomst sports park. The youthful Reds have already played in front of 35.000 enthusiastic Indonesian fans during a practice trip to the Asian country. They got a taste of professional football, but whether the English team can bring top football to the tournament is the question. Earlier, former Ajax player Luis Suarez’ club participated in 2011, when they earned fifth place and, among others, Jack Robinson and Jon Flanagan participated. These two players have since made their debut in the first team.
They’re strong and not afraid of anyone. That’s the Scottish team’s reputation. But the team which is participating in the Future Cup on behalf of Celtic has much more to offer. The coach is Miodrag Krivokapic, from Montenegro. In case you haven’t heard of him: he used to be an iron strong defender with Scottish clubs Motherwell and Dundee United. Not top clubs, certainly, but one thing was never lacking in these teams: the determination to fight until the end. If he can transmit this determination to his players, this will be the first step towards a good classification. In 2011, Celtic was seventh, so the Bhoys from Glasgow will be eager to improve on this result.
