Ajax en sc Heerenveen agree on Huntelaar transfer

Ajax and sc Heerenveen have reached agreement about the transfer of Klaas Jan Huntelaar (22) to Amsterdam. Ajax had already reached agreement with the player. The contract will run from 1 January 2006 to 30 June 2010. The transfer fee is nine million euro.

The young striker will start at Ajax on the first training session on 8 January 2006. Several clubs were interested in the current top goalscorer in the Dutch league, but Huntelaar has deliberately chosen Ajax because the club and the playing style suit him best.

Huntelaar started his career at De Graafschap. In 2000 he joined PSV's youth program. He played half a season on loan for De Graafschap and the following year he played on loan for AGOVV Apeldoorn. There he made his name by becoming the first division's top scorer with 26 goals. From 1 July 2004 Huntelaar played for sc Heerenveen, where he scored 33 goals in 45 league matches.

Head coach Danny Blind is very happy with his latest acquisition. ,,Huntelaar is a real striker who is very well suited for Ajax. He is Holland's leading scorer and he's still young. I have much faith in Klaas Jan and in his future at Ajax.”
