Ajax has won its training match against SV Hönnepel 6-0. Thulani Serero, Kolbeinn Sigthórsson (2x), Anwar El Ghazi (2x) en Danny Bakker scored the goals. Ajax plays one more friendly match against the Danish team Aalborg.
SV Hönnepel / Niedermörmter was a good sparring partner. When Ajax dictated the play, the Germans (who play at the highest amateur level) were dangerous coming into the counter-attack. The striker Daniel Boldt (2.04 meters, nicknamed ‘Lange’, or the tall one) showed his attributes. He came close to scoring the opening goal twice via long range shots. The ball his the upper corner the first time, and the second time, Peter Leeuwenburgh was forced to stretch towards the crossbar to prevent a goal against.
Ajax, playing in their blue training kits, had the advantage on the field and had a few good chances too (including a header for Sigthórsson), but it wasn’t until the 39th minute that the first goal came. Stefano Denswil set up Thulani Serero in front of the German goal with a fantastic pass, after which the South African finished off easily. Later on, Sigthórsson scored via the inside of the post, 2-0.
After the break, Hönnepel seemed to lose steam. Ajax became more and more dominant and, via Sigthórsson, took a 3-0 lead. After an hour of play, all of Ajax’s players had been substituted for players from the Ajax Reserves. Only keeper Leeuwenburgh remained. The new team doubled the lead thanks to two goals from Anwar El Ghazi and one from Danny Bakker in the last seconds of the match.
Frank de Boer was satisfied with the win. “I saw good things today. The first two goals came the way I like to see. Maybe we could have built our lead even more. The players from the Ajax Reserves did well. We don’t see them in action very often, so they need to show what they can do here, and that’s just what they did today.”
Ajax will play another friendly match against the Danish team Aalborg on Saturday at 14:30 on the field of Rijnsburg Boys. A new squad will take the field. The substitutes of the Hönnepel game will probably see action in the last 30 minutes of this game as well. So almost three complete squads will have played a full hour.
