Ajax won its friendly match against the AZ Reserves, 4-0. At the Toekomst sports complex, Ricardo Kishna, Ricardo van Rhijn, Stefano Denswil and Lerin Duarte all scored. “The guys who played today were able to play for 90 minutes. That was exactly the idea”, said Frank de Boer afterwards.
De Boer had a limited number of players available to him during this interland period. The practice match against the AZ Reserves was a great opportunity to give the non-internationals and reserves playing time. Ricardo Kishna put Ajax on the right track before halftime: 1-0. The goal-scorer formed the attack with Queensy Menig and Robert Muric. On the AZ side, former international Dirk Marcellis made his return after a long absence due to injury.
The home team scored its second goal eight minutes after the break, on a penalty. Muric was hauled down onto the grass, after which Ricardo van Rhijn scored from twelve yards out. The Alkmaar team had a few opportunities, but either shot wide or was stopped by keeper Diederik Boer. Menig (shot over), Van Rhijn (curve ball into the keeper’s hands) and Bazoer (wide shot) also failed to score.
In the final minutes, Ajax captain Stefano Denswil sent the ball past AZ keeper Nick Olij. In the ninetieth minute, Lerin Duarte scored the Amsterdam team’s fourth goal with a header. After good preparation work by Kishna the left midfielder hit the mark: 4-0.
“The guys who haven’t played much lately were able to play ninety minutes today. That’s important” noted Frank de Boer. Some Ajax players haven’t been active for a long time because of injury. De Boer: “Robert Muric, among others, has been absent for that reason for a long time. He now has a full game in his legs. Moreover, today you’d want to see good football, and that was the case.”
