During a press conference on Wednesday, the KNVB announced that the cup match between Ajax and AZ, which had been called off on December 21 after a spectator ran onto the field, will be completely replayed. The duel will take place on Thursday, January 19 at 2.30p.m. in the Amsterdam ArenA, without spectators.
Ajax also received a settlement proposal from the professional football prosecutor, for the damages. The prosecutor has fined Ajax €10.000 and one home match without a home crowd. This home match without spectators could be competition, cup tournament, or KNVB play-offs, must be played within two years.
Due to the judgement and standard conditions (article 4.2) which the KNVB has established for the purchase of game tickets, it isn’t possible to appeal for a refund of the ticket fee, or any other compensation.
After the decision was announced, Ajax management discussed it extensively. Management sincerely regrets this decision. Financial Director Jeroen Slop: “We feel that Ajax is being severely punished with this decision. Legally speaking, we have very little means to contest this decision. This is why we will abide, albeit unwillingly, by the professional football prosecutor’s settlement proposal and decision. This is also bitter for our supporters. Ajax will try to compensate the supporters appropriately in the next home match of the cup tournament, of course after discussing this with the opponents.”
