Ajax arrived safely in Brazil on Sunday evening. After a sixteen hour journey, including a stopover in Cape Verde, the Airbus a-319 landed at São Paolo’s airport with a slight delay. At 10.10a.m. local time (which is three hours earlier than in the Netherlands), the Ajax players de-boarded the airplane. Ajax will be in Brazil for one week, and plays a practice match on Saturday against Palmeiras.
The flight from Schiphol East to São Paolo was comparable to a football match. The trip consisted of a first and second half, with a (refuelling) break on Sal Island (Cape Verde). With a full tank, the aircraft crossed the ocean, heading for the native country of the five time world champions.
The 25 player selection, including among others Ouasim Bouy, Davy Klaassen, Ruben Ligeon and Ricardo van Rhijn, is in South America to prepare for the second half of the season. In addition to training and a practice match against Palmeiras, several activities with head sponsor AEGON are also planned.
On Sunday evening, at 8.30p.m. Dutch time, the first practice was planned at the Palmeiras training complex.
