Tomás Galásek has extended his contract with Ajax. The 30-year old Czech international is now under contract with Ajax to 30 June 2006. As usual, Ajax do not disclose financial details of the agreement.
Tomás Galásek will soon play his 100th league match for Ajax. Since coming to Amsterdam in the summer of of 2000, he has played 94 league matches in which he has scored 16 goals. With Ajax Galásek won the league title in 2002, as well as the Amstel Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield. In that year he also won the national championship with Ajax 2.
Galásek has played 122 official matches for Ajax. In his four seasons with the Amsterdam club he has scored 19 goals in official matches.
Within the current A-squad of Ronald Koeman Tomás Galásek is one of the more experienced players in the European cup tournaments. The UEFA Champions League match against Celta de Vigo on Tuesday 4 November was his 21st European cup match. The only goal Galásek has scored for Ajax in those 21 games, was a very important one. In the home match against Grazer AK in the third preliminary round of the UEFA Champions League, he scored the so-called ‘silver goal’ from a penalty. Also because of that goal Ajax play in the UEFA Champions League this season.
Before coming to Ajax, Tomás Galásek played 110 league matches (with 12 goals) for Willem II. His career began with Banik Ostrava, for whom he played since 1991 in 121 league matches (with 9 goals).
Tomás Galásek has been a mainstay in the national team of the Czech Republic since 1995. He has earned 26 caps for his country, without scoring as yet. He also played 16 times for the Czech Republic under 21. As a youth international Galásek scored 6 times.
