Ajax and Tijjani Babangida have decided to end the winger's contract, which ran through 2004, to end per May 1 2003. Ajax and technical director Leo Beenhakker release no further details about the meeting between both parties.
Tijjani Babangida came to Ajax in 1996. Before that, he played for VVV (two seasons) and Roda JC (three seasons). Babangida won the double with Ajax in 1998. He played 102 official matches for Ajax, in which he scored 22 times.
In the 2000-2001 season he played for Turkish side Genclerbirligi, with which he won the Turkish cup. Last season Babangida played on loan for Vitesse. The Nigerian forward was hired out to Al Ittihad in Saudi-Arabia for the past six months.
