On Friday Ajax and adidas officially opened the adidas miCoach Performance Centre at sports complex the Ajax Academy. The centre, which was built by the Dutch firm Verwelius, consists of an artificial grass football pitch, which is covered by an air dome, and an annex. The air dome’s capacity – the first one of its size in Holland – is 110.000 m3 and its contents included 12.000 m2 of cloth and 22.000 metres of steel cables. The adidas miCoach Performance Centre will be used by both Ajax’ first team and the teams from the Ajax Academy.
The technology integrated in the adidas miCoach Performance Centre allows Ajax to gather performance related data on both teams and individual players. The detailed data and the analyses based on that data are then used to further optimise players’ development courses and team training.
Rik van den Boog, Ajax’ CEO: ,,Both adidas and Ajax acknowledge the importance of innovation. We have a lot to offer one another in this respect, which is why we have joined forces. The collaboration offers us direct access to knowledge, experience and products, such as clever training schedules, which we can use to further professionalize Ajax’ training and development course. By offering this kind of technology, to our youth players as well, we distinguish ourselves once again. Not only in Holland, but internationally as well.”
Paul Boerboom, General Manager for adidas Group Benelux: ,,Everyone agrees that the Ajax Academy must form the heart of Ajax, now more than ever. We are proud to be able to contribute to this distinguishing development, both actively and with content. It takes the traditional sponsor relationship to another level.”
