Ajax A1 posts convincing win

Ajax A1 won its second match in the NextGen Series on Wednesday evening. At the Toekomst sports complex, A1 defeated Fenerbahce U-19, 5-1. Youssef Fennich scored two goals. The Turks played most of the second half with ten men.

Ajax A1 has had a good start to the season so far. Fred Grim and Ronald de Boer’s team won the Supercup, which is the first competition match, and the NextGen Series opening game against Aston Villa. The reigning A1 national champion showed that they have returned in fine form. The A1 continued easily in the same positive vein against Fenerbahce.
Three weeks after its 2-0 win against Aston Villa, A1 didn’t give away any points against Fenerbahce in Amsterdam. Just like they had been during their European debut against the English team, Ajax’s highest junior team were dominant against their counterparts from Istanbul. The Turkish guests kept Ajax away from their goal as much as they could during the first 25 minutes by applying pressure. That strategy was not sustainable for the entire ninety minutes, as was clear at halftime with a 2-0 score on the board.
Youssouf Fennich struck gold twice in a row. The midfielder put Ajax in the lead in the 26th minute with a searing long range shot. Three minutes later, Fennich repeated the feat from a corner kick. The ball was a ripe prey for Fennich, who struck again: 2-0. Grim: “Youssouf is performing well in practices. That’s why he started today. It’s great for him that he scored twice, with both his left and right foot. He really showed what he can do with those two goals.”

The 2-0 lead should have been expanded before the break. Rowendy Schoop and Davy Klaassen both had opportunities to score from close by, but neither Ajax player managed to get an extra leg up on the Turkish team before the break. Beylan Simsek’s 2-1 in the 43rd minute was a glimmer of hope for Fenerbahce.

Early in the second half, Fenerbahce was forced to continue to match with ten men. Right back Ömer Kandemir was ¨punished with a red card after a forceful foul on Xandro Schenk. Ajax played out its numeric advantage superbly. After five minutes of the red card being issued, the 2-1 lead had become a 4-1 lead. Under Frank de Boer´s watchful eye, Viktor Fischer and captain Davy Klaassen (header) both scored from close by. Midway through the second half, Lesley de Sa scored too. The swift winger’s attempt from the right flank rewarded with a goal.
After two home games, Ajax A1 will play two away games in a row in the NextGen Series. On Wednesday, September 28, A1 will meet Rosenborg in Norway. After that, Ajax travels to England to play Aston Villa (November 22). The next match after that will be on November 29 against Rosenborg. The last group match, against Fenerbahce, is scheduled for December 7.

Ajax A1 line-up: Mickey van der Hart, Sven Nieuwpoort, Fabian Sporkslede, Stefano Denswil, Xandro Schenk, Youssef Fennich, Davy Klaassen (77. Boban Lazic), Ouasim Bouy (69. Darren Rosheuvel), Lesley de Sa, Rowendy Schoop, Viktor Fischer (60. Nick de Bondt).
