Ajax A1 will play a home game against Fenerbahce on Wednesday evening. It will be Ajax’s second game of the NextGeneration Series, which is a European competition for under-19 teams. Fred Grim’s team had an auspicious beginning of the tournament in early August, defeating Aston Villa 2-0. Ajax A1 – Fenerbahce U-19 starts at 6.30p.m. on Wednesday evening at de Toekomst. Admission is free of charge.
The NextGen Series offers the A1 players a fantastic opportunity to measure themselves against their European counterparts. Grim has previously said that these matches are ‘fantastic learning opportunities’ for the A juniors. “They’ll learn to play against opponents from abroad, who have different playing styles. Travelling to European matches is new for them, too. Moreover, the matches follow each other in rapid succession. They need to re-focus within a short amount of time. These are all issues which they’ll face later on, with the seniors. The NextGen Series gives them the chance to build up experience in these areas already.”
Ajax A1 is leading group 3 after the first round of play. Fellow group members Fenerbahçe and Rosenborg hadn’t seen action at that stage. This match against Ajax will mark the European debut for the Turkish team.
