Ajax 2 defeated AGOVV to go through to the next round in the Gatorade Cup. Olaf Lindenbergh scored the only goal of the match in the Amsterdam ArenA after 116 minutes.
Young Ajax's coach John van den Brom had no less than seven players of the first team (Boukhari, Rosenberg, Lindenbergh, Heitinga, Escudé, Vonk and Vermaelen) who came to help his team advance out of the third round of the national Cup. AGOVV Apeldoorn, playing in the first division and coached by former Ajax goalkeeper Stanley Menzo, was to be beaten. It took Ajax 2 116 minutes to do so.
Not even a red card for AGOVV's Kilic could change the score in the regular playing time. Markus Rosenberg saw an effort in the final minutes bounce back off the goal post. In the second overtime period, Young Ajax finally broke the spell. After a combination between Boukhari, Escudé and Shadewsing, Olaf Lindenbergh headed in the winning goal. As is almost tradition, Young Ajax advance to the next round of the Gatorade Cup, the only second team to do so.
