Ajax and Aegon have reached an agreement for a one-time extension of the head sponsorship, for six more months, until December 31, 2014. Ajax initiated the discussions, as the club needs more time in order to find a replacement for the head sponsorship.
The extension of the head sponsorship – and the jersey sponsorship – is estimated to be worth 3 million euro. After that, Ajax will remain on as a regular sponsor until June 30, 2017. There is also an option for an extra year, until June 30, 2018.
Edwin van der Sar, Ajax’s marketing director: “Aegon is helping us a lot with this extension, because we need more time. Now, we can go on with some peace of mind.”
Marco Keim, CEO of Aegon Netherlands: “We’ve been connected to Ajax since 2008 as the head sponsor, and have achieved good results. It’s valuable to us that a good successor is found, that’s why we are committing to this extra six months as head sponsor.”
