Ajax and Django Warmerdam have reached an agreement to extend his contract that had been effective until June 30, 2016. The new and improved contract will be effective per July 1, 2016, until June 30, 2018.
Warmerdam was born on September 2, 1995, in Voorhout. The midfielder has played in Ajax’s youth academy since 2003. On August 11, 2014, he made his debut in professional football with the Ajax Reserves in the Ajax Reserves – NEC (1-1) Jupiler League match. Warmerdam has played in 52 official matches to date with the reserves, scoring two goals.
Warmerdam says this about his new contract: “This expresses confidence. I have played many games as a defender with the Ajax Reserves in the past two seasons. I’m a midfielder by nature, but in recent years at Ajax I’ve been transformed into a left back and central defender. My focus now is on the left back position. In the next two seasons, I will need to prove myself again and try to gain a spot on the first team.”
