Marcel Keizer has been brought in to coach the Ajax Reserves. He has signed a contract that will be effective per July 1, 2016, for two years, until June 30, 2018.
Keizer (Badhoevedorp, January 15, 1969) started last season as the head coach of FC Emmen. On February 13, 2016, he was brought in as the head coach as SC Cambuur, where he had previously worked as a technical manager. From 2012 to 2014, Keizer was the head coach at SC Telstar.
The coach played in Ajax’s youth academy and made his debut in Ajax 1 on April 10, 1988. He played in a total of four official matches for the first team. In 1989, he left for Cambuur Leeuwarden. Via De Graafschap and FC Emmen, he ended his playing career in 2002, after which he began his coaching career.
Director Edwin van der Sar: “We believe that Marcel Keizer is the right person to lead the Ajax Reserves. In addition to the fact that he played in our youth academy, including professionally, he is a relatively young but very experienced coach. That’s important for the group of talents with whom he will represent Ajax in the Jupiler League. It’s very important for us that the transition of players from the upper academy to the Ajax Reserves, and then to the A selection, goes smoothly. Marcel will play a key role in that process.”
Marcel Keizer, a nephew of Ajax legend Piet Keizer, is looking forward to his new challenge: “Working in a top club with top youth players is an amazing challenge. It was a choice between two great options, because Cambuur is a fantastic club as well. Ajax is the place where I started. Ajax’s technical approach and working with youth players who want to play professionally at the top were important factors in my decision to choose Ajax. The Ajax Reserves players all have talent, but need to work hard to get to where they want to be. We’re going to work on that together.”
