Ajax’s eSports team is expanding with the addition of Dani Hagebreuk. After Koen Weijland, Dani is the second eSporter to be signed by Ajax. The current Dutch FIFA 17 champion will play on behalf of Ajax in the E-Division. Dani gets jersey number 46, with which he will represent Ajax at the European qualification for the world championship taking place in Paris this weekend.
The ePlayers will represent Ajax at national and international tournaments, both individually and for the team. General Manager Edwin van der Sar: “Koen and Dani complement each other well. The expansion of our eSports team fits with our ambition. A double presence, with eSports, is necessary in order to lift each other to a higher level. Dani is talented and has added several tournaments to his name this year, among which the Dutch Championship. Koen is important in his role as captain of the team.”
This is a dream come true for Dani. “I’ve been an Ajax fan my whole life. At a certain point, you realise that playing for Ajax isn’t going to happen. So it’s all the better that I can still represent Ajax in red-and-white this way.”
The ePlayer games can be followed weekly via a live strea. In addition to that, various fan activities are organized, both with the ball and the game controller.
