Peter Bosz and Davy Klaassen looked back on the game against Heracles critically, but with satisfaction. “Each win gives us more confidence”, emphasized coach Bosz. “Moreover, we’re now playing in this same formation for the third time. You need to make sure that the playing continues to improve. And that it will keep getting better.”
Bosz saw his captain, Davy Klaassen, score in his third straight away game in the Eredivisie for the first time. The midfielder scored his 35th career goal in the Eredivisie in this game at Heracles (0-2). Yet again, Klaassen had set Ajax on the right track for another win.
With his five competition goals in six games, the captain shares the honours of top Eredivisie scorer of 2016-2017. Klaassen currently shares first place with Twente player Enes Ünal. With his 35th competition goal, the midfielder takes his place alongside former Ajax players Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marc Overmars.
“It wasn’t an amazing or beautiful goal, but it counts”, said Klaassen after the away game in Almelo. The Ajacied’s 1-0 goal was initiated by a high pass from Mitchell Dijks and followed through by an inadvertent assist by Heracles defender Tim Breukers. “The ball hit this guy (Breukers) and then it was a done deal.”
Just as Bosz had been earlier, Klaassen was critical of his team’s mediocre playing. Ajax had difficulty in pulling away from the Almelo team. Looking back, Breukers’ gift came at the perfect time for the visitors. Ten minutes after Klaassen’s goal, Nemanja Gudelj scored the 0-2 goal. “We were getting opportunities, but we just needed to get the ball in”, said Klaassen critically. “I do think that we really deserved to win here in Almelo. We didn’t steal these three points. We need to play better, but I’m happy with this win.”
