Bosz: ‘Ajax can do better.’

Peter Bosz was pleased that Ajax left the field with three points on Saturday evening, but he wasn’t pleased with the way they played.  “Our pace was much too slow.”

“I’m not pleased with the game I saw”, said Bosz.  “Our pace was much too slow in the first half.  If you lose the ball, you should hustle to get it back, but we were always one or two meters too far away.  The second half was better.  We were on top of it, and we took the lead early on.  After that, we created opportunities, but didn’t make good on them.  So Excelsior kept the faith and it was exciting until the end.”

Bosz brought in Vaclav Cerny and Abdelhak Nouri in for the last twenty minutes.  “I wanted to make a difference via the wings.  They both had a chance to score, but unfortunately they didn’t get the ball in, either.”

Conclusion: it was a mediocre evening in the Amsterdam ArenA.  Bosz: “Looking at the entire match, I don’t think we played well.  I’m happy with the win and the clean sheet.  But I would have liked to score more.  Ajax can do better.  And we will, next time.”
