Ajax’s two friendly matches in Nieuwleusen, which had been cancelled, took place after all at the Toekomst, behind closed doors. Peter Bosz’s team suffered two losses. Krylya Sovetov won 1-2, and earlier on, Ajax’s ‘A team’ went under to Gent, 0-2.
The friendly matches did not take place in Nieuwleusen as the spectators’ safety couldn’t be guaranteed. The games were thus moved to the Toekomst, where Ajax, with many squad players, kicked off against Gent at 14:00.
Both teams started the game by applying a lot of pressure in their opponents’ half. After about ten minutes, Gent forward Kalifa Coulibaly scored with a header, 0-1. After that it was Ajax who came knocking on the Belgians’ door, with shots by Davy Klaassen and Mitchell Dijks. But the narrow lead was on the scoreboard at halftime.
The second half was underway for two minutes when, once again , the Malaysian Coulibaly escaped the attention of the Ajax defense: 0-2. The Belgians were very effective, Ajax always came up short at the last moment in front of the goal.
At the end of the second half, Peter Bosz sent in a group of youngsters. Donny van de Beek came close to scoring twice, but Belgian gloves and boots prevented the 19 year old midfielder from scoring. The result was a 0-2 defeat at the hands of the Belgian opponent. Later that afternoon, Ajax was defeated 1-2 by the Russian team Krylya Sovetov.
