Ajax tied its second friendly match of the season. While visiting fellow Amsterdam team AFC, the final score was 2-2. The amateurs took the lead twice, and Lasse Schöne and Robert Muric scored the tying goals.
“Sub-par”, said Peter Bosz after the city derby had ended. “This can’t happen, but it still did. The goals against were the result of personal errors. We had many opportunities, and if we had made good on them, it would have ended differently. But when you don’t score on these chances, it’s usually due to a lack of concentration. It’s clear that there is a lot to improve on.”
AFC started the game at Sportpark Goed Genoeg with the required bluster, but after about fifteen minutes, Ajax took the initiative. Daley Sinkgraven (header) and Vaclav Cerny (shot following a beautiful solo) came close to scoring the opening goal, but keeper Patrick Zonneveld kept his goal empty.
Mateo Cassierra, having just arrived in Amsterdam, made his debut. After 22 minutes, he was brought into position very well. The Colombian also appeared in front of the AFC goal, but shot just wide. Moments later, he was blocked by the keeper. Ajax remained the dominant team, although it was AFC who was leading at halftime. Koen Bosma took advantage of a ball that had been badly played back by Joël Veltman and scored the 1-0 goal.
With a totally new line-up, Ajax went on the hunt for the tying goal. It came in the 55th minute when Lasse Schöne scored beautifully on a free kick. AFC attacked directly after that. Nick Viergever clumsily lost the ball, after which Matthijs Jesse had a free passage to Diederik Boer, and scored the 2-1 goal.
Ajax continued to apply pressure, and the opportunities came. Robert Muric scored the 2-2 goal in the 79th minute. And despite good opportunities for Viergever (crossbar) and Robert Muric (free opportunity in extra time), no more goals were scored. Now on to Saturday, when friendly matches against KAA Gent and Krylya Sovetov are on the agenda.
