Following in father’s footsteps

Daley Blind only has four official matches in Ajax 1 to go until he joins the exclusive Club of 100. After he’s played them, and joins the illustrious list, he will be the one hundred and fiftieth Ajax player to have participated in more than one hundred games in an Ajax jersey. He will also be the third Ajax player to follow in his father’s footsteps. And, on Father’s Day, that is definitely worth mentioning.
Damon Mirani Talent of the Year

During the traditional Trophy Night last week, Damon Mirani was honoured as the Toekomst’s Talent of the Year. At the Toekomst, the 17 year old from Monnickendam received the Sjaak Swart Trophy from Wim Jonk (technical heart) and Theo van Duivenbode (board of directors). The right-footed central defender was visibly, and audibly, honoured with being chosen.
Ajax youth closes with trophy night

It’s a wonderful tradition, which was given a new twist this year. On Trophy Night (formerly Pennant Night), the Ajax talents from the youth academy closed the football year in a festive fashion. The highlight last week was Damon Mirani winning the Talent of the Year award.

‘Ajax still visible in China’
Ajax was supposed to be in China two weeks ago. A match against AC Milan in Beijing, the capital, was going to be the close to the championship year. But because the promoter wasn’t able to finalize the organization of the match, the trip was cancelled. This doesn’t alter Ajax’s plans with the Asian country. Marketing director Edwin van der Sar explains.

Ajax players climb Alpe D’Huez
Climbing a mountain to fight a deadly disease. That’s what Fons Groenendijk and Peter Leeuwenburgh are doing this week in the French Alps. Ajax A1’s coach and keeper are participating in the Alpe D’HuZes, an annual benefit in the fight against cancer.

Ajax extends Frank de Boer’s contract
Ajax’s management has reached a verbal agreement with head coach Frank de Boer to extend his contract, which had been effective until June 30, 2015. The new contract takes effect on July 1, 2013 and is valid for four years, until June 30, 2017. De Boer: “This new contract is exactly what I wanted.”

Ajax Women celebrate one-year anniversary
Exactly one year ago this weekend, a historic even took place at the Toekomst: the Ajax Women were established. Since then, Marleen Molenaar, the women’s football manager, has seen acceptance grow for the new branch. Now, she and the players are reaping the rewards. “They’re working very hard at what they’re passionate about.”

Ajax ends season in style
Ajax has ended the season in style. Dressed in its latest away kit, freshly minted champion Ajax defeated FC Groningen 0-2. Kolbeinn Sigthórsson and substitute Danny Hoesen scored the goals in the Euroborg. “We did well”, concluded a satisfied Frank de Boer.

Ajax is the champion!
Ajax is the Dutch champion! In the sold out Amsterdam ArenA, Willem II was defeated 5-0 on Sunday. The Amsterdam team thus won its 32nd national championship. Moreover, Frank de Boer and his Ajax players won the triple, their third national title in a row. After the championship match, a celebration burst out in Amsterdam.
