Van Geel has accepted the consequence that he should resign as technical director of Ajax. The club has accepted his resignation under many thanks for all he has done. Martin van Geel (47) joined Ajax at 1 July 2005.

Van Geel: ,,In the proposed way, I don't see a role for myself as an independently functioning technical director. Ajax and I agree: two captains on one ship does not work.”

Uri Coronel: ,,We are sorry to see Martin van Geel leave, because I know he is a hard-working, loyal and reliable director. But we can only respect his decision. We have tried to keep him at Ajax, but his mind was made up.”
